dhcp not working

On w2k i run ipconfig /release to attempt to cause dhcp to
get an ip. I get the following:

All adapters bound to DHCP do not have DHCP addresses.

Can not get connected to the network.
 
Try ipconfig /renew.

I get the same error and when I try to renew I get Error
10038: Renewing adapter "{.......
 
Is the nic set to obtain an IP and DNS automatically from your DHCP-server?
Have you checked the cables? Tried another nic?

Ran ipconfig /renew

got "An operation was attempted on something that is not a
socket"
 
the problem is on a hard cabled nic and also on a wireless
nic. the nics are talking to the hub but am unable to get
dhcp to work.
