DHCP is enabled how do i disable

i have ethernet service which is set to a specific IP
address but the DHCP wants to search for a new address
about every half hour which knocks me off line or will not
find the IP when coming on line. how do i disable DHCP?
 
Is this by chance a cable modem or DSL connection to the internet?
 
You'll need to contact your ISP in that case. I suspect that your computer
is not properly registered on their network. Normal DHCP lease times for
cable are 7 days (renew every 3.5 days). With most cable isps, there is no
way to avoid using DHCP since that is the only service they provide (unless
you want to pay a lot more for service)
