DHCP "hung" error during every boot (since KB914388)

Starting with the reboot right after installing KB914388
(MS06-036) and now with *every* subsequent boot,
my NT5.0 SP4 system takes an extra 20 or 30 seconds
to fully load - it appears like it is hanging on the
"preparing network" screen before the desktop finally,
eventually appears. This entry shows up, now, for every boot
since the patch:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7022
Description:
The DHCP Client service hung on starting.

I am having the same problem on every single boot on my windows 2000 SP4
server. The server does have a static IP. If I go to the server, the service
did start by itself without intervention. That means that the client is
starting and not really hanging, but not within the desired timeframe. I
would still like to clear the event out of the system event log.

Let me know if anyone else has seen this yet and if there is an official
solution?

Thanks,

The "solution" seems to be uninstalling the patch. Assuming the patch is
needed to correct a security vulnerability, does anyone have a solution that
involves leaving the patch installed and preventing the DHCP client service
errors?

We received a fix to test and on one machine it has been successful, the fix
was to edit HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCP\DependOnService and
append the word "ProtectedStorage" without the quotes, the Reg key is a
REG_MULTI_SZ so if you want to test this use Regedt32, I do not accept any
responsibility if it crashes your machine but it worked on one of ours - I
also have a VBS script to edit this key and append to it, if anybody wants it
email (e-mail address removed)

I suspect that MS will release a patch for this in the near future

Regards
Steve
