Devices not visible in Fax Console

K

Ken cooper

We have had problems with the ocmputer, and have had to
reconstruct some of the files. The file 'software' in C:
\winnt\system32\config\ was corrupt. We replaced this with
one from my laptop, which managed to get most of the
software working again.

The fax console now does not show any devices, although
there are 2 modems installed - both visible in device
manager and working. I therefore cannot send or recieve
faxes.

I presume that there is a file missing, or a setting
incorrect.

Please help.

In Windows 2000, the fax will be installed (that is all files already exist
on the machine) automatically when a fax modem is installed. If there are
any files missing from this set, I don't think there is a way to get them
back.

You can try uninstalling the modems and installing them again. May be in the
process you will be prompted for the missing file, if any.
