Device Manager Wizard

Mr.Bilou

Hello.

First of all , I apologize if the terms are not exact. Im not fluent
in English and my Windows Version is in French.

I post here a question. I did not have a response on the french XP
newsgroup.
I would like to install ***silently*** a device. It plugs on USB and
it is given with a software and his drivers.

When I plug the device . The new hardware wizard device manager
appears and I am being asked to install the drivers. (I can let
windows choose the drivers or point to the .inf file , result is the
same)
Once the drivers installed, I can used correctly the device. If I
unplug and plug it , it is well recognized.

I unplug the device, desinstall properly the drivers and restart the
computer.

With the contextual menu of the .inf files. I install the drivers. (I
tried with setupapi.dll , result is the same).
I plug the device, but the new hardware wizard appears again.

Why ?
*** What does the wizard that I have not done by installing the inf.
files ? ***
How to install manually the drivers so the wizard does not appear ?

Thank you for your answers.

I can't answer your question, but you do not need to apologise for your
English which, if you don't mind me saying, is very good!

Never mind. English isn't my native language either.

Under WinXP, drivers should not be installed directly via their .inf
files. "Device Installation FAQ" (Excerpt)

| At that point on Windows XP, if the setup class of the INF is eligible
| for WHQL testing, the system displays the "Found New hardware" wizard.
| If the user continues, the system displays a digital signature warning.
| If the setup class is not eligible for WHQL testing, the system
| displays only the "Found New Hardware" wizard and does not display a
| digital signature warning.
