Do you see a device with an "exclamation mark" on the icon? If so, that may
be the modem that needs a driver installed. (In that case, you should
install the driver that came with the modem, probably on a CD.)
If not, then you may have some hardware IRQ conflicts - you should check
with the modem maker for help. One common issue is to try moving your modem
to a different PCI slot, which sometimes causes different IRQ's to be
assigned.
