HELP Unable to set COMM Ports 1 & 2, New PCI Card

Mathew Good

New HP Pavilion PC Running XP ?

Had to add a Serial Port card, as the Bar Code scanner uses COMM ports 1 or 2.

Problem is that the card installs its self as COMM 4-5

Managed to move the Dialup Modem from COMM port 3 and now the Serial card shows COMM ports 3-4,
and with no option to change to lower posts as they are not listed under Advance.

I can't find out what is using the lower ports and I do know that Ports 1-2 are shared with 3-4..

Also Under Device Manager/Show Hidden Devises, Non-plug and Play Drivers, it flags a Serial device
with no Drivers.

Details list it as ROOT\LEGASY_SERIAL\0000

I do not know if this has any bearing on why the Serial card can't be set to COMMS Ports 1 and 2.

I can't get into the PC as its under warrantee and a local shop fitted the I/O Card..

So Please how can I find out what is using Ports 1 and 2 and how to free them up.

Thanks.

Why did you add a Serial card, when your pc comes with ports 1 and 2...?

Go into the bios and disable ports 1 and 2 on the motherboard, but better
use them.
