XP Pro Can't Find Modem

I helped a friend buy a computer. It came without a modem, but he had
a modem. We installed his modem but XP does not find and install it.
In fact it doesn't show any Comm/Serial ports and there has to be a
serial port on the modem doesn't there?

We also tried a modem I had. Same result -- no modem, no serial port.

you might try to access
the cmos/bios for the pc.

the instructions can be
found in the user manual
or at the website for the
pc maker.

in fact it might not be a
bad idea to visit the
website for any updates
that may have been
provided since that
pc was boxed and
distributed.

in any case, inside
the cmos/bios there
will be the ability to
enable the com ports,
full duplex settings, etc,

also, go to the modem
website too to look for
any updates as well.

I'm under the impression that card modem comm ports are on the card.
They used to be jumper configurable, but I think today they're Plug
and Play and if configurable, it's done with software.
