device manager keeps refreshing

I upgraded to XP Home from Me about three weeks ago and
have been really happy since then. Last night, I ran
disk defragmenter and Ad Aware. Since then my device
manager screen continues to "refresh" itself. This
causes my USB optical mouse to momentarily freeze after
use of the buttons.

Any idea what happened or how to fix it?
