device failure

I keep getting the message " Microsoft windows has
detected and recovered from a device failure". At that
point I have to restart the computer. I'm using a
Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse and it worked perfectly
with Win 98. It seems to happens while I'm moving the
mouse. It doesn't happen all the time.
Is there some type of error log in XP professional? I'm
just guessing that it's the mouse>
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
