Device Drivers

I just did a clean Windows XP install which included formatting the hard
drive. It installed with no errors but when I look at device manager, there
is a group called 'Other devices' which has question marks beside Ethernet
Controller, printer, multimedia audio controller , PCI simple comm
controller, scan, SM bus controller, and video controller. Tried to select
ethernet controller and install driver but failed. Aren't these drivers
supposed to be installed with Windows XP ? If not, how do I get them ? I
don't think I can connect to the internet without an ethernet connection.

You need to install mobo chipset and other hw drivers.
Obtained either from cd's supplied with your sys,
PC Manu if the likes of Dell / HP etc or Laptop manu, if a laptop, or
direct from the hw manu web sites
Do NOT obtain drivers from winupdate

If you have USB connection for modem you can get connect to internet. As DL
stated You need to install motherboard drivers (which you should have them in
a cd).
