Device Driver cannot load

Trying to download Cannon S230. I get the following message in Device Manager:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous
instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)"

I hope someone will come up with an answer for this soon. I am getting the
same message with regard to my USB video capture device (K-World USB Combo TV
Box -Model 7011). It worked fine under ME but after upgrading to XP Oct.,
2004, I can't get the driver to load (same message, Code 38). Even after
many installs and uninstalls and getting an updated set-up package from
K-World (and many more installs and uninstalls), the problem remains. In
researching this in Microsoft Knowledge, I found an article about this
message coming in reference to a keyboard under Server 2003; this article had
a fix for that, but I'm afraid to try it under XP Home . . . perhaps someone
who knows a lot more could put us both on the right track to solving this
problem!
