detecting proxy settings

I'm running IE 6 on windows ME, with sympatico and Zone
Alarm. When I first start windows, it takes a long time
to 'detect proxy settings'. Is there a solution for this?
I'm not using a proxy.

Go to internet options.......Connection....LAN click.
Click to expand...
Make sure the Proxy setting box is .... NOT...clicked.
hit apply and ok. Hope this helps.
