Hello everyone! I will try to make this short. My laptop malfunctioned, I
thought I had lost all data, then a friend installed another version of
Windows (believe on another sector - ?) so we could at least see the hard
drive. After all that, I spoke with someone that knew what they were doing,
and they helped me with getting my data back. Have no clue how, but believe
it was changing permissions or something like that. I am now in the process
of backing up all my data so we can wipe out this system and start over (the
system is a mess!). Here is my problem, I have tried everything possible and
still cannot backup/copy/export my .PST file. When I tried to copy it to the
d drive (the CD), I got the error message of "Access denied to the d drive".
I then installed this new iomega REV drive that I just got, tried to copy it
to that, and the error message I get is "cyclic redundancy check" and it
stops copying about 10 seconds into it. I have also tried to copy it over to
the desktop (read somewhere to try that) and then copy it to the d drive -
that failed as well. I have checked the permissions and everything else I
found on the internet, but cannot get this file copied. I desperately need
the data as it has all of my business stuff on it. I'm sorry about the vague
information, but I am not real technical. Also, I can use the .PST file in
Outlook (through the new Windows that was installed), so I am guessing the
file itself is o.k. My old calendar and everything is there - I just cannot
get it copied so I can wipe out this hard drive and start fresh! I am using
the new Windows that was installed, as the old version is still messed up (it
stays in a constant reboot mode, never gets to the main screen). I would be
so unbelievably thankful if anyone could help me out on this. I have not
slept in days and do not know what else to do. Thank you so much. Chris.

Make sure that Outlook is closed when you try to move the file. Also do you
have any other add-ins, like ActiveSync, that might be trying to access it
at the same time?

instead of copying it, use a program to burn it to the CD, you should have
one somewhere, like Roxio, or something. Also, how big is the file, a CD
will only hold 650 meg or so.

Thank you very much for responding. Yes, I did make sure that Outlook was
closed while trying the various methods. I have to wonder though, the
situation with the original Windows in the constant reboot mode, could that
be posing a problem in that Outlook is consider "open" through that Windows -
(I am using the other version that the friend installed, as the original one
will never completely boot up). I do not have any add-ins either. If that
original Windows is posing a problem, are there any ways around it? My gosh,
I have never been so stressed over computer problems! And, believe me, I have
learned my lesson! I have bought a complete set of protection software and
back-up tools to use once I am able to wipe out this system and start over!
I just need my PST files!!! Thanks again - please send any and all
suggestions. Regards.

Thanks for the response ... I knew that the CD was possibly not able to hold
that much data, so that is why I got the iomega REV drive. I thought that
would hold my whole hard drive if I needed it to! But, that didn't work
either. O.K. - I will try the "Roxio" that you refer to. I am clueless as
to what it is, but I will do a search and try that method. I am not
technical at all, and am completely surprised at myself that I have been able
to recover what I have! Of course, anymore suggestions I would love to hear
.... thanks again!

check the integrity of pst file. If your pst currepted, there is some
tools available on net to repair pst files. first write a cd and then
run tools to repair it.

thanks,
