I have read the post and feel like I am having almost
every one of the problems others are posting about.
About a week ago, I received the bubble on my task bar
stating that SP2 was ready to be installed. I clicked on
it and nothing happened. The bubble has since
disappeared. BUT my computer has not worked properly
since and keeps deteriorating every time I reboot. System
info is showing XP Home edition SP1. I have updated all
drivers I can think of, virus scanned twice and run
spybot search and destroy.
On reboot, dispay is 640 x 480. If reset it in control
panel to 800 x 600, the icons resize but the display
becomes narrow.
Sometime, not always, Windows messenger is not starting
on reboot. When I try to manually start it, sometimes it
locks up the whole system, other times it starts and
immediately causes the screen to resize to 640 x 480.
The system is locking up quite frequently, which it never
did before.
Today I rebooted and received a message stating that
drastic changes to my system had occured and I needed to
reactive Win XP, which I did.
Twice today I received a 32rundll.exe error message.
It's seems like since I unsuccessfully installed SP2,
every time I reboot, there is another surprise.
I am contemplating reinstalling XP over itself in hopes
that it corrects some of these problems. Is this
advisable.
Something is corrupt. I don't know what, why nor how to
correct it.I'd be greatful if anyone has some remedies.
I'm desperate !
