Desperate Drives - They seem blank?

Please please please please help! I'm going mad.

I have a problem where all my drives seem to be read (I can boot from a
floppy, audio CDs play (under media player) and when I plug in a USB memory
stick the sys tray flags up the exact part number) but when I go through
windows explorer or into my computer and double click the drives they seem to
be blank.

An error message flags up for the floppy and usb stick that the drive is
inaccessible, incorrect function.

Putting a CD into the drive brings up the windows "This CD is blank....."
message but I can then go into media player and play the audio ones. The
original windows CD even autoplays and brings up the standard re-installation
screen.

Any ideas?

Press F8 early in the boot phase, then select "Safe Mode".
Is the problem still present?
