There is this thick gray bar on my desktop on the left side and it will not
go away i've tried everything including restarting my computer, it's been
there for about a month. On the Bar it says Folder Tasks, Other Places and
Details. If anyone knows what I am talking about or If you can help me please
post a message, i'm not very good with computers. Thank you.

Look at the top right corner of the title bar. There's a small x there that
you can click on to close it. You can also go to View on the menu bar above,
Explorer and chose Folders. You'll see all your folders on the left instead.

I should also include that there is no menu bar at the top where I can
simply 'x' it out, it's just a solid gray bar

I recently ran into this same problem. This is caused by a missing registry
key. The following website has the information to replace the missing key.
There is also a file you can download to automatically replace it. I replaced
it manually and it worked fine, but if you do not feel comfortable editing
the registry I would download the file.
