Desktop window size question

When I open any Desktop folders for the first time in a session, they always
open small - all the same size and position. This differs from IE's behavior
of remembering last size & location. If I adjust the folder's size &
location (like with IE), once I reboot the new Desktop windows sizes and
positions are forgotten and they all go back to a default (small). Anyone
have a simple tweak to make Desktop windows stick? (I think I've tried all
the recent suggestions on this forum, except third-party downloads.) Thanks.

It involves a few options. First, you need to open Windows Explorer,
Click Tools, Folder Options, View (TAB) scroll through the options
and check the option "Remember Each Folder's view settings". Also,
XP (Gold, SP1) has a lower number of remembered folders. Service
Pack 2 raises that number to 5000.

Yes, I made sure the folder option you're referring to was checked a long
time ago. That's why I'm perplexed - the Desktop windows are not obedient to
that setting. The windows stay adjusted for one session and then revert back
to a small default after a reboot, even though I've chosen "Remeber each
folder's view settings".
Is there anything that may be overriding the setting? Thanks.

Resolution: Apparently the 400 folder default cache in WinXP was inadequate.
Increasing the folder cache (using TweakUI) fixed the problem. My folders
now retain their settings. Thanks to R. McCarty for leading me in that
direction.
