Desktop Toolbar & Printer

When I boot up my computer, I am unable to activate
applications from my toolbar. They work okay from my
desktop. I am also unable to access the "Start" menu, so
I cannot shut down my computer properly.

My printer does not work either, and I cannot log on to
my internet provider. Not sure if any of this is all
related.

Any assistance will be much appreciated.

I have also encountered a similar problem. After I
downloaded and installed quicktime my computer froze up.
After rebooting the machine I am unable to access the
toolbar and start menu. When I place the cursor over the
toolbar the hour glass icon appears and the toolbar is a
gray bar. How can this problem be fixed? Will re-
installing XP help, if so, will i lose any saved files on
my harddrive. Thanks.
