Desktop shortcuts

I have shortcut copies of like 125 files from "My Documents". I can't get
them of my desktop and when I sent them all to the recycle bin (mind you, one
by one), I restarted the computer and they were replaced with the same
documents, only with a new copy number. They are completely covering my
desktop and I don't know what to do. Thank you sooooo much for any help with
this!

If your only or main disk is C:, and you log in as Laura, then you
should be able to find the "originals" of those shortcuts at

C:\Documents and Settings\Laura\Desktop

If you select them all there and bin them, I think that should work.
I'm not positive about that, because I've never needed to do it
myself. Usually if I bin one from the desktop it doesn't come back,
so I'm not really sure why that didn't work for you.

Mind when you do it though that you only get ones that are labelled as
shortcuts -- I just noticed that my actual anti-virus program, not a
shortcut, is resident on my desktop, so if I were to grab everything
without looking and bin the lot, I'd have to do a re-install.

Hope that helps

Margaret

oops, sorry Laura, I didn't read as carefully as I ought to have done.

What you probably want to do is open up the Control Panel
(Start->Settings->Control Panel), open Folder Options, and the View
tab, and then un-check the "Show My Documents on the Desktop" option.

Hope that (really) helps.

Margaret
