Please help...desktop shortcuts

I have shortcut copies of like 125 files from "My Documents". I can't get
them of my desktop and when I sent them all to the recycle bin (mind you, one
by one), I restarted the computer and they were replaced with the same
documents, only with a new copy number. They are completely covering my
desktop and I don't know what to do. Thank you sooooo much for any help with
this!

Is it possible that you made numerous copies of the shortcuts. And when you
deleted the ones that were shown on the screen, there were more where it
can't be displayed. And then when you restarted your computer it moved them
back onto the desktop in a viewable area.
