I have read all the articles referring to the Google G shortcut icon turning
to generic E on the desk top, and tried the solutions. I must be missing
something, Basically what I want to do is preserve my Google desktop
shortcut which I understand is stored in the Temporary Internet Files. In
order to do so I have to change its location.
Could someone explain in detail what I should do step by step, as I seem to
be missing something.
The best post that I saw was from David Candy on 11/14/05 but I must be
missing something there.
Thank You

Long post, read it all.

They were deleted when you emptied your Temporary Internet Files folder.

Read about it here...
[[Favicons are usually lost when you delete your Temporary Internet Files,
but FavOrg preserves them.]]

These Icons are stored in >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
or
C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files

The contents of these files get deleted. Icons revert back to the generic
ugly IE e.

IE | Tools | Internet Options | General tab | Settings button | View Files
button | Scroll down to whatever *.ico files you want to keep | Left click
favicon.ico | Drag to Desktop | Rename to whatever | Store in a folder such
as >> C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\My Documents\ICONS

Open Favorites | Right click whatever item | Properties | Change Icon |
button | Browse button | Click: My Documents or wherever *.ico are stored |
Click whatever *.ico | Open button | OK | Apply | OK
Repeat as necessary.

If you move any *.ico files after customizing your shortcut/favorite, the
icon will revert back to the blue e

Wesley,
Thank you for your response. It is a carbon copy of a previous one you
posted for another person, and I must be doing something wrong. Please note
also, I am referring to DESKTOP SHORTCUT FAVICON and not the favroites menu
on IE if your message addressed my problem, I am missing something and need a
more detailed instruction as what to do.
Thank You

Hi,

Copy the desired icon to a permanent location, then right-click the desktop
shortcut icon and select "properties", then click the button called "Change
Icon" and browse to the location of the desired icon.

Hope that helps

Andy

What Andy said.

Doesn't matter what kind of item it is or where it is located the steps are
similar.

For a Desktop shortcut:

Right click the shortcut.
Select Properties.
Click the Change icon button on the General tab.
Click the Browse button to browse through folders to find the file you want.
Double click the *.ico file that you want.
Click OK.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

For a Folder:

Right click the Folder.
Select Properties.
Click the Customize tab.
Click the Change icon button.
Click the Browse button to browse through folders to find the file you want.
Double click the *.ico file that you want.
Click OK.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

Thank You both for the help, but I am still missing something, A few things
are *.ico and Change icon is on the Web Document Tab, not general tab. and
how do I create the Icon shortcut ect. I need a step by step from square one.
I just do not seem to understand what I am being told to do, and it does not
come out right. Thank you both for trying to help me. I guess I am just
helpless.
