Desktop Shortcuts [Favicons] dissappear!

Hello all,
I'm having a 'wrestling match' with my computer regarding my desktop favicons.
The situation is, that I have 4 websites that I visit regularly, and I have
created shortcuts on the desktop for them...each having its own corporate
logo; however, very time that I reboot the system these logo shortcuts revert
back to that infernal IE "E" instead of the logos.
I have copied them from the Temporary files to their own file; I have
created a new account [with administrator privleges]; copied all the Docs &
Settings [leaving behind ntuser.dat etc.], but to no avail. Interestingly
enough though, when I go to each site via my home page and create a 'new'
shortcut [ deleting the IE "E"], I go into the folder 'favicons' and the
corporate logos reappear, without any assistance from me!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Dave T.

Sounds like you are using weblinks for the icons, thus making them refresh
when you connect & visit the website in question.

Try creating a new folder in C:\windows\ and saving the icons in there.
Make sure the icons have the extension .ico (you may need to change your
folder settings to enable file extensions to be shown.

Then right click the shortcut and go to properties-->customise and change
the icon from there.

Workaround:

Navigate to the Temporary Internet Files, and drag the icons to the desktop
and rename them to whatever name you like.

Create a folder called Icon Selection. Move all of the renamed favicons to
this folder placed in the root directory of C. Right click on the Icon,
select Browse and navigate to your Icon Selection folder. Choose the
renamed favicon and click ok. These icons will be permanent.

When you right click on an icon, select browse and navigate to the Icon
Selection folder. Choose the renamed favicon you want and click ok. Your
customized icons will be permanent.

Your

Right, and if you have two PC's like I do, and you make sure you have
a copy of your icon's folder (in my case its C:\Icons\) on both
machines, if when you copy Internet Shortcuts, or any other shortcuts
you have created with custom icons, or even folders for which you have
customized the icon (see desktop.ini hidden files with notepad), they
will maintain same appearance on the other machine.
