I logged in under my name, went on AOL under my dad's e-mail and now I have a
message: 6 unread e-mail messages under my desktop login name. I want to
either get rid of that, or change it to my netscape.net e-mail. Any help?

Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

To change it manually - Start/Run/Regedit:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.

Hi

You can download TweakUI from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp and when
installed go to Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI - then go to
Logon>Unread Mail - disable it in the right hand pane.

Otherwise the Unread Mail can be disabled via the Registry - navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Youremailaddress],
double click on 'MessageCount' - in the right hand pane - and change the
value to 0(Zero).

***If you do opt for the Registry please 'tweak', please backup the Registry
first. A good program to do this - as well as being able to restore it - is
ERunt:

The best way to clear the unread-email counter is to download the Tweak UI
XP PowerToy (
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp ) and perform
the following steps:
1. Start Tweak UI.
2. Select the Repair branch in the left-hand pane of the dialog box.
3. Select "Repair unread mail count" in the right-hand pane, then click
"Repair Now".
4. Close Tweak UI.

Hi Keith,

Not all programs work within that environment. The address used is stored
here:

To remove an account or to change the count manually Go to:
Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.
