Out of nowhere my computer has decided to give me a message saying that
"windows" cannot find the link when I click on a desk top icon intended to
go to FireFox and then to an HTTPS://WWW. The link is actually made but
with the "Windows" message in the screen.
This just started today and I have made no changes other than a possible
overnight auto windows update.

Try repairing HTM, and URL associations:
Fix File Associations.

Hi vernon

This is most likely down to a bug in the FF 2.0.0.x installer which
caused some file types to have garbled settings. Did you perhaps get the
update to 2.0.0.3 today?

Here's a link to a fix which should help (see the post by "jscher2000"):
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2767445

As well as changing the settings for HTTP and HTTPS, as the post
suggests, I changed HTM and HTML too, as I couldn't open shortcuts to
local files. All now fine -- hope it works for you too :-)
