Desktop Link Icons don't work

Certain desktop icons are not working. My Computer, Recycle Bin, My
Documents, and just about every other desktop icon that is a link does
absolutely nothing but produce an hourglass for abotu 10 seconds and then
nothing. I cannot even access My Documents from the Start Menu. Executable
shortcuts are working fine, just not the ones thast open folders.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To repair all system files, go to Start/Run, and type (or paste in): SFC /SCANNOW (see: Description of Windows XP and Windows Server

I tried this earlier with no effect. It requested my XP Professional CD and
cycled through all of ym DLL files. The problem still exists. Any other
suggestions.

If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it might go into
a setup loop, and you could lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you Upgrade setup from CD (that lacks sp2 on it.)

Thanks for the help Mark. I have uninstalled SP2 and things appear to be
working, albeit somewhat slow. I do appreciate your timely assistance.
