Desktop Image Will Not Appear

I have Widows XP Media Center Edition 2002

I recently had a spyware problem which has been resolved. Somehow in the last
month or so, my desktop image will not appear. There is only a blue screen.
When I start up the computer, the image I want as a desktop image shows for a
few seconds and then disapears. When I go into Control Panel and try to
change the image, all of the desktop backgrounds are greyed out and I can't
select anything. I have searched hundreds of threads for a solution and have
tried several recommended things before like: editing registry keys and such.
I am at my wits end! Help!

right click desktop > properties > desktop (tab) > customize desktop > web
(tab)
this is the offline web page list. Make sure all radio boxes are cleared.
Let me know if this helped.

Sorry, the restaraunt calls (me)...

....so this is a registry issue. You will need to download a program called
"startuplist.exe" from http://www.merijn.org

Drag this app into "C:\Documents and Settings\"USER"\Start Menu\Programs
where "USER" is your account duh, so the app starts when windows does
(delete from this local after diagnosis)

The next time you logon this app will list EVERY resource your computer is
using (even the drivers supporting your USB coffee warming pad). You will
have to use instinct here to root out your issues, try the "run" registry
keys to start.

From the 'start' keys you can find the app/broken key names, the directories
and file names of your troubles.
You will have to do some research into your specific viral issue at
google.ca from there, good luck.
