Desktop image...where and what? ? ?

WinXP... where in windows are the collection of desktop images kept,
and what type of files are they (jpg bmp ? ?)

Do you mean the icons or the wallpaper?

Try this/right click blank area of
Desktop/Properties/Desktop/Background/have a look around. Hope this helps.

Via instructions I read in the newsgroups I've added a new desktop
image (now included in the Desktop background list) by putting its
..bmp file into
c;\documents and settings \myname \application data \microsoft
\internet explorer

(And they said it was a long way to Tipperary.).

That is incorrect. The Windows directory and the My Pictures folders is
where you put them.
