Desktop Icons

After running McAfee's "cleanup" tool in their Security Center, every one of
my Desktop internet icons now queries me upon clicking "choose the program
you want to use to open the file" and it lists Explorer, Firefox, etc as well
as the standard Microsoft file extensions.

Xing the box "always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
does no good.

I tried to create a new bookmark for one of those icons, but the new
bookmark also opens the same query.

How to I re-establish a direct link so that a double click on a URL directly
accesses that URL without having to tell it to use Explorer, etc.

Explorer 6

Went to 7 about 5 months ago - too many problems (it basically disabled my
MSN ISP) - removed upgrade back to 6 shortly thereafter.

Have been on 6 for over four months - problem started only after using
McAfee "clean disc" utility.

Hi,
First, does McAfee Clean Disk have an undo capability?

Next, from Control panel> Add or remove programs> Set Program Access and
Defaults, choose
Microsoft Windows or Custom. Make sure Internet Explorer is selected as the
default
browser.

If that didn't fix things, after a restart, check file associations for
Internet Shortcut.
From Control Panel> Folder Options> File Types> Internet shortcut, settings
for Internet Shortcut> Open> Edit, should be:

"Application used to perform this action" should read:
rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

DDE Message:
empty

Application:
shdocvw

DDE Application Not Running:
empty

Thanks Don
Step 1 solved the problem - I had been using Firefox for some apps, Explorer
for others, and apparently the McAfee Clean function just figured I should
choose each time for each ap.
Chose Explorer for all - solved the issue.
Checked your point #2 - DDE read as supposed to.
Thanx
