desktop icons

when i try to open my desktop icons by left clicking they won't open, i have
to right click and then click open. problem has just started. can anybody
give me any ideas as to what is happening. replace my mouse to no avail

You might have set the double click speed of your mouse very high so it is
hard to get it to take affect. My father in-law did this somehow. Go into
the Control Panel and then Mouse settings and tinker with the double click
speed.
