Desktop Icons Moving

Hello,

I'm hoping someone might know why my desktop icons keep
getting re-arranged on booting up when none of the options
for arranging icons have been checked. How do I get the
icons to stay where I put them before shutting down?

Thanks for any help...

Windows will rearrange icons whenever anything changes its "Display"
mode to another size or number of colors. This can be a program,
screen saver, video utility, game, multiple monitors, etc. which
affects the screen resolution. This prevents your icons from getting
lost off the edges of the screen when the desktop size is reduced. You
can try to locate the program which is causing this (most likely being
run at start up) to see if it has an option to prevent changing the
screen size/colors.

There are also several utilities available which will save and restore
your icon arrangements:
Activicons (freeware) - http://www.cursorarts.com/ca_ai.html for links
(the options to save and restore the arrangement are on its "Desktop
Controls" screen).

EZ-Desk ($15) - http://www.ezwaretech.com/

Either of these will make it much easier to restore your desktop, and
both will save/restore multiple arrangements.

That is the best explanation I have read yet on this issue. Thanks for boiling it down. I was going to say an application was the culprit but your explanation includs a logical reason for it and what to look for. Thanks.
