desktop icons missing

anyone knows how to fix missing desktop icons? from
startup, the icons and background don't show up (just
blank blue screen). when i try to open windows explorer
from task manager, they all show up suddenly. what's the
problem? thanks...

Look in your event viewer. The shell is hanging.
