desktop icons and internet home page malfunctin

I need help desperately. I accessed an email that
started with the popups from all kinds of sites that were
about online perscription drugs. Now I have three icons
on my home page that I cannot delete and I cannot change
the default setting of my internet. I purchased a
program called SpyKiller off the internet and it gound 5
different things of spyware and I deleted those but the
thing is still doing what it has started doing. How do I
fix this and how do I restore all of the default setting
that came with the computer from Dell. Please won't
smebody help me with this asap.

I can't help you but I have a similar problem so if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. I am getting sick of the pop ups, unwanted websites in my favourites list, the home on IE goes to some weird site I'd never heard of before etc etc. I have the full Macaffee package as well as having recently installed something called Spybot and nothing seems to work. It all seemed to start soon after Macaffee detected a blaster virus, which it supposedly cleaned up. Don't know if that's relevant

I admit to being a bit of an XP newbie so haven't got a clue what else to do
