Dear All,

There is an anomaly which the desktop icons re arrange themselves when
refresh (F5) or reboot. Rearrange icon option is off.

Any remedy?

Thanks.

If Lock Web Items on Desktop is checked...
Items can be moved, but they are moved back after reboot.

If Auto Arrange is checked...
The icons are arranged in columns along the left side of your screen.

Right click Desktop | Arrange Icons By |
UNCheck: Auto Arrange
UNCheck: Lock Web Items on Desktop

Auto Arrange
[[Arrange the icons in columns along the left side of your screen.]]

Lock Web Items on Desktop
[[Specifies whether Web content windows or items that *you* have placed on
your desktop are locked in place and can’t be moved. Select the check box to
lock Web content in place. Clear the check box if you want to be able to
move Web content.]]

I tried to set Lock Web Content on Desktop -- I went to the desktop, >

How can I lock down the icons I place on my desktop?

Lock Web Items on Desktop is the command. You may also be missing Show
Desktop icons and Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard.

If you have TweakUI...

TweakUI

[[If this is unchecked then the ability to add Web Content to the desktop
will be disabled.]]

Show Desktop Icons will not display if you have unchecked:
Allow Web content to be added to the desktop
in TweakUI.

You will *not* see:

Right click Desktop | Properties | Desktop tab | Customize Desktop button |
Web tab

Or....
Right click Desktop | Arrange Icons By | Show Desktop Icons

Also, *.jpg files will not be listed in...
Display Properties | Desktop tab | Background

TweakUI sets NoActiveDesktop to 1 here...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Value Name: NoActiveDesktop
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 0 or 1
0 = Allow Web content to be added to the desktop
1 = Don't allow Web content to be added to the desktop

If you do not have TweakUI, see this for the fix...

Hmmm. My goal was to lock the desktop icons into place so that I
could shift between 600x800 and a higher resolution without the icons
moving around -- I have to use the web lock feature. I tried that but
the icons kept moving around. So it looks like web lock wasn't
working, so I turned it off and got my transparent icon labels back.
Oh well. It was worth a try.

Desktop Layout is saved here...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags\1\Desktop

Maybe you could export the key before changing resolution and then Merge it
back after.

I have no idea if that would work or not.
