Desktop Icons rearranged

I installed a new program (MarketBrowser) and after using it noticed
that my desktop icons had been significantly rearranged. I think this is
something I have seen before when my screen resolution was changed. I
put the icons back where I had them and when i ran the program again the
icons were again rearranged.

Is this something the program can modify? Is there a way of locking the
icons to keep them from being rearranged?

Thanks
Stan

Sure, rt click Desktop and click on Arrange Icons By and then click on
Auto Arrange,
Align by Grid and Lock web items to Desktop.

Well, yes and no. You could set Auto Arrange, in which case they would
always be automatically arranged for you. All the time, so anything you
moved youself to make things easier wouldn't "stick".

It sounds like it's happening because the program, whatever it is, changes
screen resolutions on the fly for you; that's a typical result of such a
thing, and IMO the app is very rude if it's not warning you it's happening.

There are Desktop Save and Restore programs you can download, and when you
lose a desktop arrangement, you just click it, an dit's back to what it was
the last time you clicked to save it. I use a program called "Layout"; it
consists simply of a DLL and a .Reg to add the entries to the Registry, but
the author, for whatever reason, didn't embed any contact info so I've long
ago forgotten where it came from; it might have been sysinternals. There
are many such apps available though if you search for them.

I use something called Desktop Save and Restore. I got it here:

First one on the list. It gives you a two choices when you right click
on the desktop. Restore Desktop and Save Desktop.
