Desktop icon grid reset

Does anyone know how to format or reset the size of the
invisble grid used by the desktop to align icons. Mine
has been reset to a huge size by some software, which
means the icons are now aligned down the centre of the
screen.

On a related point...
The icons on My Documents do not snap to the grid. My 3 other PCs (XPh)
do it just fine. I can't find the setting to fix this. Can you help,
please?

At Display - Appearance, click Advanced, select 'Vertical (and
horizontal) Icon spacing. It is the space between icons so the grid
pitch is these values plus icon size. Leave enough room between for the
labels
