Desktop Icons

I've just installed Windows XP. I've arranged my desktop Icons in order and
inline as I prefer. But when I right click on the desktop for the dialog box
to display and left click on "refresh" to perfectly aline the Icons the Icons
don't move. Auto arrange, Align to Grid and Lock Items on Desktop are NOT
checked, they are not on. I could align the desktop icons in perfect order,
perfect spacing by left clicking on "refresh" on my old 98se system. I prefer
to arrange the desktop icons myself and then aligning them perfectly by
clicking on refresh. Anyone out there with a problem like this? I sure do
need some anwers.

Why do the icons move if you haven't checked "Auto arrange" and/or "align to
grid" option?
If you need to align the icons uncheck "auto arrange" and check "align to
grid". Then you change the positions manually and refresh.
