Desktop Icon for Windows Explorer???

I just got a new computer which has Windows XP. I've been using
Windows 98 for a long time and need some advice on a couple of things:

How can I create an icon for my desktop which will get me into Windows
Explorer? I've tried right clicking on Desktop and creating an icon
that way, but it asks for the file path for the file I want to create
the shortcut for. Not sure how to show the path to Windows Explorer.
I've also tried right clicking Windows Explorer in the
Programs-Accessories and selecting Create Shortcut, but it doesn't
create an icon.

Also, in Windows 98 I had my Windows Explorer set up so the files were
shown in a table form, instead of the little file folder icons with the
file name under it. I'd prefer to have this Windows Eplorer with the
same setup, but I can't remember how to switch from the folder icons.

Any help on these items would be appreciated.

Click on View on the top toolbar | Details or List

List view displays the contents of a folder as a list of file or folder
names preceded by small icons. This view is useful if your folder contains
many files and you want to scan the list for a file name. You can sort your
files and folders in this view; however, you cannot display your files in
groups.

In Details view, Windows lists the contents of the open folder and provides
detailed information about your files, including name, type, size, and date
modified. In Details view you can also show your files in groups.

This will create a shortcut to C:
Right click the Desktop | New | Shortcut |
Type or copy and paste this in the box:

%windir%\EXPLORER.EXE /e,c:

Next | Name it Windows Explorer (or whatever) | Finish

You can also assign a shortcut key to that shortcut.

Right click the shortcut | Properties | Shortcut tab |
[[With the cursor in the Shortcut key box, select the keyboard key you
want to use in combination with CTRL+ALT. Shortcut keys automatically start
with CTRL+ALT. The Shortcut key box will display None until you select the
key and then the box will display Ctrl+Alt+the key you selected. You cannot
use the ESC, ENTER, TAB, SPACEBAR, PRINT SCREEN, SHIFT, or BACKSPACE keys.

Note
Once you assign a shortcut key combination for a specific program, you will
not be able to use that key combination with other programs.]]

I use Ctrl + Alt + E.

Hi Josh,

In addition: Start Menu/All Programs/Accessories/Windows Explorer and drag
it to your Start Menu under Internet or Email. Or simply right click it,
Send To/Desktop Create Shortcut.
