Desktop icon for desktop.ini - safe to remove?

R

Ray k

This is not just a shortcut to desktop.ini. I'd like to remove it cleanup
the desktop; Microsoft issues a dire warning if I try.
I believe the reason I see it is because I have enabled Explorer | Folder
Options | View to display hidden files and folders.

Its contents are:

[LocalizedFileNames]
Windows Media Player.lnk=@C:\WINDOWS\inf\unregmp2.exe,-4

Is it safe to remove?

Thanks,

Ray

Hi Ray,

I don't see anything in it that would cause an issue. Try renaming it
to desktop.ini.old and see if any issues arise.

I have my view options to display hidden files & folders and don't have
it. I only rarely see certain workstations that show it.
