desktop font changes--Help, I've got brainlock!!!

I am CERTAIN I've done this in the past but, for the life of me, can't
recall exactly how! I'd like to change the font that appears on the
toolbar labels identifying the open windows as well as what I call
"folder/file IDs"--those being, for example, the "Display" "Add/Remove
Software" etc labels in Control Panel and the names of each occupant of
my personal folder, e.g. My Pictures.

FYI, I'm not just talking about font SIZE but rather the actual type of
letters displayed and their format; I know all about the font size and
Clear Type options under Control Panel/Display Settings and
Appearances; and have tried altering Message Text, Menu and such in
that section. Oh, and my OS is Windows XP.

Anyone know SPECIFICALLY (no theories, please) what to do if, for
example, I wanted to change the standard desktop icon IDs (My Computer
and the lot) to, say, Comic Sans bold font???

Thanks. You can also mail a response to (e-mail address removed)
with NOSPAM removed, of course.

Right click a blank area on the desktop. Click Properties. Click Display.
Click Appearance. Click Advanced. Click Item. Scroll until you find the
item you want to change. Click on Font dropdown arrow. Scroll to the font
you want to use. Click size and change any size you want. Change colors of
text. Click on OK. Done.

Don't mean to sound like an ingrate, but this has already been tried
and it doesn't seem to affect the fonts I was specifically referencing.
Anyone know SPECIFICALLY which will change said fonts???

Well, you *are* sounding like an ingrate because LVTravel told you how to do
it and you ignored him without double-checking your own work. If you go
back to exactly where you were and where he (or she) said, look again. You
will see the item - it starts with Desktop - and a drop-down arrow. Click
the drop-down arrow and you'll see the other design elements such as Active
Titlebar, icons, etc. When the design element has a font involved (and
obviously they all don't - Desktop doesn't) then the font choice will no
longer be grayed out and *it* has a little drop-down arrow. Click the
drop-down arrow and Ta Da! you can choose different fonts. The size of the
font is in the next box over and you can change that, too.

No need to mention the chestnut about what happens when one assumes, do
we?

Anyway, I had INDEED double-checked the process LV described and STILL
didn't find an option to change the fonts I specifically referenced
above. And you'll note I asked for specified directions--being I'm not
one to hang any sort of MVP tag onto my sig--being I obviously can't
find what I've otherwise named "file ID tags" and the like. Now can we
please quit griping over the small stuff and someone kindly provide an
answer for this admitted non-expert? Thanks.

Hi,

The problem you are facing, is that Windows groups certain types of
display functions together.

What I mean is that the specific displays that you want to change
cannot be done individually. You must pick a category, and all of
the displays in that category will be changed.

LV response was correct, unfortunately when you make the changes,
you affect other displays.

Ciao . . . C.Joseph

Thanks, C. It would appear that my previous changes to, say, the fonts
used on the taskbar buttons were more a "happy coincidence" from
tweaking something else, rather than a specific adjustment. At the
time of the posting, I thought it might have been one of those weird
things where I could do it in an earlier OS, but it was eliminated with
XP. Then it struck me to try on my laptop (Win98SE) and I STILL
couldn't alter just the specified fonts. Oh, well, it was worth a
try.--imswm
