Desktop error

I was tring to place a shortcut on my desktop and placed instead a view of
something that is not a shortcut icon....How do I removed the error?

Just making a guess:

1. Right-click on Desktop and choose Properties
2. Click Desktop tab and then click Customize Desktop button.
3. Click the Web tab and uncheck all the "Web Pages" listed.
