Desktop background image is zoomed in

I have an image on my desktop background which I want centered. Since
the image is not the same size as the background I expect is to have
empty space. Instead the image is zoomed in. I have found no option to
decide this behaviour.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 with XP pro sp2.

Hi,
In Display Properties> Desktop> Background once that image is selected, in
the Position field, you should be able to choose Center. Is that choice not
there?

The option center is there. The problem is that it zooms the image. So
instead of getting the whole image with extra space, I get only as
much of the image as can fit on the screen. I want the whole image
obviously ;) I could of course photoshop it, but I want it to do the
right thing automatically. I like to swithc backgrounds and my images
won't always be guaranteed to fit the screen.

Hi,
OK, I see what you mean.
I've found two workarounds...
1. When I open a JPG in Internet Explorer, then right-click> Set as
background. The "center" option maintains the original size when Internet
Explorer Walllpaper is selected.
2. In IrfanView> Options> Set as Wallpaper, the original size is maintained.
IrfanView (freeware) http://www.irfanview.com/

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately these methods don't work.
Irfanview does provide a nice ligthweight alternative to photoshop
(paint is not even an option) so I'll just resize with that.

You're welcome. Sorry we didn't actually resolve the resize/stretch issue.
