desktop and start menu icons

all the desktop and start menu icons have changed to the standard icon. can
anyone help?
 
hope this helps press start /control panel/taskbar start panel /advanced
there are 2 settings small and large sharon
 
thanks for taking the time to reply but unfortunately it didn't solve the
problem
