Deskjet 722C Color Print Problem

Ron

I have a Deskjet 722c hooked to a Dell Desktop with XP Home Edition (I
also tried the printer on another Dell with XP Media Edition with the
same results) that started having a problem printing colors. I have an
ink refill kit so I tried refilling the cartridge but that did not
solve the problem. Thinking maybe there was a problem with the
cartridge, I bought a replacement and the same problem exists--no
colors print at all but black prints fine.

I tried using the HP troubleshooter located at:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&product=58707&lang=en&cc=us&docname=bpd09113

This particular blurb is for: HP Deskjet Printers - The Printer Will
Not Print in Color. It has not been updated for XP and once I get to
Printer Settings, Item 7, I cannot match the instructions to XP's
settings screen. It says: "If you are using Windows 2000, in the
Advanced tab, click the Printing Defaults button. Click the Advanced
tab. The box by Print in Grayscale should not be checked."

Once I click the Printing Defaults button, there is no advanced tab to
click. There also is no mention of Grayscale on the Advance Options
screen but there are several items (indicated in the [ ] below) grayed
out and cannot be changed: Graphics, Print Quality [300 x 300 dots per
inch]; Document Options, Color Printing Mode [True Color (24 bpp)];
Printer Features, Print Quality [Normal] and Print Mode [Auto Select]

The printer uses the driver that comes with XP so I am at a loss unless
there is some hidden setting (like the Grayscale one mentioned above)
that needs to be set/cleared or perhaps the printer has failed
mechanically.

Any ideas?

Regards

Ron

Try printing a (rudimentary) nozzle diagnostic test as shown at the
following:

Does this print with color? If not make sure you have removed the blue
tape.

Hi Bob

I have tried that test and others--no color and no tape. I have also
cleaned the contacts and the nozzle area on the cartridge per HP
instructions. I talked with a HP tech yesterday and he believes the
cartridge may be bad so I will try another. If no luck, retirement per
measekite's recommendation seems appropriate.

Thanks

Check the date on the cartridge as shown at
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bua02014.
If the cartridge is still in warranty check with your dealer of HP for a
warranty replacement.

Since the cartridge seems to be toast at this point you do not have much
to lose. Try blotting the printhead on a damp tissue. If you do not
get strips of cyan, magenta and yellow the cartridge is certainly the
problem. In this case a new cartridge would solve your problem.
