desk.cpl corrupted

it would appear from the error message
(C:\WINDOWS\System32\desk.cpl is not a valid windows
image...)
I get when I right click in the desktop and click
properties, that my desk.cpl file is corrupted. I can't
find any instruction on expanding out a new copy from my
xp pro cd, and I can't seem to find it on my own.. Anyone
have a suggestion...

I am having the same problem and have not been able to
correct the problem. I think

from the Microsoft knowledge base may refer to this error
but they do not offer any fix online. It appears that you
may need to call Microsoft for the fix. Let me know if
you have any luck in fixing the problem
