Designing in Frontpage versus code

Let me start by saying I am NOT an IT professional. I have written a couple
of websites with Frontpage that seem to work fine. I had a local business
contact me about a web site for them and he showed me a copy of a proposal
from a professional web design company. I dont understand a lot about code
etc but the other company proposed writing the site using "custom build
template, code PHP/XHTML". They included other items such as Dynamic
Elements, a database, and customization and installation of Aycad CMS. Ok -
most of that is greek to me. My question is, is there some huge disadvantage
to having a site built with this manner rather than Frontpage? The store
that called me wouldn't be doing their own updates. They are a fast food
restaurant with no one who does this sort of thing. I would be the one to do
any updates.Thanks in advance.

FrontPage can only take you so far. If you want (or need) your site to be
more dynamic then you will eventually have to move on to learn server and
client side scripting, CSS, DHTML etc. (like this proposal is talking
about). You can still use FrontPage to edit and update the site but you'll
just need to be careful not to delete any of the code that's being added.
FrontPage 2003 offers a few features for doing server-side and client-side
coding and Expression Web (the new product that's replacing FrontPage -
http://www.microsoft.com/products/expression/en/Expression-Web/default.mspx)
offers even more. For really advanced sites you could use FrontPage for the
layout and design and another program (like Visual Studio) for the coding.

The bottom line. Does this quote offer the business features they need or
want? If so then some of those features may require PHP etc to get them
done. Without seeing the requirements I can't really tell. However you
will still be able to update the pure HTML parts of the site but will
require training to update and custom coding this contractor uses.

the following link is to a site that the person who contacted wants to mimic.
Is there anything on this site that can't be accomplished with FP?

Everything on that site can be done with FrontPage except for the opening
FLASH jingle. You'd need FLASH to create that or you can just use a normal
background sound.
