Denied Access on boot

FYI: New PC with Vista 2 days ago.
When I bootup I see a smaller black window (DOS) that has 2 lines stating
"Access denied". There is no error code. Then it boots up. How do I track
down what this is and how to correct it?

It might be a startup program that starts when you log in to Windows.

You can check all programs that start when Windows starts with Windows
Defender. Open Windows Defender, click on Tools, then Software Explorer and
choose "Startup Programs" next to Category.

If you think you see the program that is causing this, you could delete it
from the startup list.

With some programs the delete button is disabled. Click on "Show for all
users" to enable this.

I am aware of how to stop programs from booting using Windows Defender. I
was hoping for a better solution that "disable" and reboot to see if it fixed
the problem on each program. Thanks for your input though.

How far do you get?
Use process or elimination; do the basics:
can you see your hard drive?
can you boot from DOS disk and see you dirve?
Check configs in your BIOS, make sure it points to the right HDD?
some recovery disks that come with your PC and Vista give you option to
repair boot problems?... YOU SHOULD CHECK THIS FIRST!!!!
check connections?

I have the same problem, everything boots properly, only once I log on to my
user name a DOS window will open and read ERROR: Access Denied. It shows up
a couple times then goes away and i go about my business. I can't imagine
this is a cosmetic issue even though the machine runs fine, albeit slowly,
afterwards. This was a display machine at a retail store, could it be
possible that this was set up to disallow access from curious shoppers?
