Demote AD from Cluster node

I'm having a 2 nodes in a cluster (active/passive) where
all our companies shared data are stored. The nodes is
also our GC:s (the only domain controllers in our
domain). I'm planning for a migration to Windows Server
2003 and at the same time I'm planning to put 2 dedicated
controllers that will only function as GC and DNS Servers.

Now to the questions.
Will a demotion (removal) of the controllers in any way
infect the cluster?
Has anybody done this?

I can't answer the second question, but as for the first one, I spoke with a
cluster engineer who said that just demoting the dc's shouldn't affect their
data stores at all (he also highly recommended, like you're in the process
of fixing, of not running cluster on dc's). Once the new dc's are brought
up, made gc's, etc the existing 2 cluster dc's can be demoted. (one note
about fsmo roles though, if you want one peticular 2k3 dc to have some or
all of them, then you might want to manually transfer them to that machine
prior to demotion. The demotion process will automatically transfer them
ok, but it will pick the machine they get moved too on its own)
