Dell's, WinXP, and HP LJ4 series printers

I am having trouble with several Dell pc's, WinXP prof. and the HP
laserJet 4 series printers. When I connect them up, WinXP recognizes
them and installs the print driver. After the system reboots, we can
not talk to the printers anymore. I have tried setting the printer port
to ECP, EPP, and standard in BIOS. and it did not make a difference.

Under Device Settings->Ports->Printer Port: I have tried each of the
settings and again it did not make a difference.

When connected to a non Dell PC and XP, these printers work very well.
And, when connected to a Dell with 98 or Win2K, they print well.

Any help would be appreciated. I have been fighting with this for a few
weeks and would like to resolve the issue.

I do not know if this would help, but you might check out

It is written for issues between all-in-one units and Dell computers but may
apply to your case.

Here is an update. After I install the printers, they will work fine
until the PC is rebooted. After that, they do not print any more. Any
Ideas?
