Dell 610 laptop no longer docking correctly

E

Eynon

I'm having an issue where I am unable to cold/warm/hot dock my laptop on the
Dell docking station. It has worked fine for over a year, but now I'm getting
the following symptoms when I hook it up:

1) Does not recognize keyboard
2) Does not recognize NIC / network connection
3) Docking station power and docking buttons not working
4) Speakers hooked up to docking station not recognized

As a test, I used another docking station (this is at a work environment
with all of the same setups) and had the same issue, however the docking
station was working fine for the other person. When I dock, it does recognize
the power connected to the the docking station, however. It will also
recognize the monitor attached, strangely enough when coming out of hibernate
mode.

Laptop Model: Dell 610
Op Sys: Windows XP Professional (Corporate version)
Rights: Power user

Any help would be much appreciated!

Time to contact Dell for their expert support on your system. Sounds like
you may have broken or bent pins or wires in the laptop.

Don't know where you came from but you answered information to the wrong
person as I'm a responder to the OP and not the person with the problem.
Since this came from a NON-DELL site and you responded to the wrong person,
I would be very cautious about having the OP contact you for any repair.

TO THE OP: What I originally said holds true. You need to contact Dell
Technical Support at the telephone number provided with your system's
documentation. Be very cautious of this person's post in reference to him
arranging tech support.

Larry,

I just want to say that you posting here is a great deal. You bring a
perspective to this group that is hard to come by, and frankly, you have the
best database of problems/solutions for Dell systems, where many of us are
guessing and going on limited model experience.

Thanks!

Kewl. Thanks, Larry!

:
: I am a Dell employee, and the job of my team is to post in reply to
: people that are having problems such as this with Dell computers. You
: can get more information about my team here
: (http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/2006/11/19/3648.aspx and I'm
: the guy in the black shirt in the front row).
:
: Currently we are not able to post directly to usenet (I'm still trying
: to get IT to open that up for my team). My post on this thread is
: through a web-to-usenet site,
: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=927379, as that is where
: our data service "found" the original post. Because the site is
: posting it to the newsgroup you are seeing non-Dell information.
:
: As for how to get the computer fixed, calling into Dell technical
: support is the best way to do so. I offered my assistance because some
: people would rather not call and he has already posted on the internet
: about the problem. Whether he contacts me, or calls support is
: entirely up to him. If he has any doubts about my authenticity I
: recommend he look up the number for tech support (found on the Dell
: website) and call them. Whether he gets help from me or someone else
: is irrelevant to me, as long as he gets the help he needs to get the
: problem resolved.
